Maps and Words

Module 6

Practical Examples

During the Soviet era, many Russian maps were printed with deliberate mistakes and omissions to confuse potential invaders.

A politician may make promises to win an election and people may believe these words. These promises may be beyond the politician’s power to deliver. When the people realize this politician cannot live up to his or her promises, they lose confidence in the politician.

"When a child looks at a bird, he looks at its splendid colours, the texture of its feathers, its surprised movements, its cooing and the whole spectrum of events delights him. Then comes along Father who must intervene in the son's own interests and tell him that this is a robin, that is a swallow and that he had better know the difference."
