Active Exercises

1. Open up a new browser window, and go to one of your favorite sites, but make sure it’s one that has standard advertisements.  Test the claims of one of the ads by applying the Structural Differential.  Be sure to notice how much detail gets lost at every step. Click here for an example.

2. Describe the actual event process of an event of your choosing and, using the format of the Structural Differential, how it gets transduced into abstractions.  Note which details may have been lost along the way.  Why were certain details retained, and others discarded?

3. Think about how your awareness of the world might be different if you lost one or more of your senses.  How might your perception and evaluations change?
