Module 6

Mistakes to be Prevented

Some people are more impressed by political oratory than by sound ideas.

An audience allows a magician’s patter to divert its attention from his acts.

Some people believe the fake claims for cancer cures, hair-restorers, muscle builders, diets…. Etc

The history of science gives many examples of scientists being disregarded or persecuted because their daily findings did not agree with the words of the accepted authorities

Some believe that the Cinderella stories in magazines that always have happy endings are true to life

(Above examples are taken from Minteer, Words and What They Do To You, Lesson 4)

People confuse the United States flag for what it represents. They get upset over flag burnings because they imagine the symbol of the flag “to be” their beliefs in their country.
